George V. Purcell was born in the little village of Union, Montgomery County, Ohio, on October 20, 1875. After completing the course offered by the public school of the village he took up his life in Dayton, where larger opportunities for employment were afforded. In time he became a street car motorman and was one of the most reliable in the company's employ. He gave up the blue uniform of the street car for the blue suit and brass buttons of the police force on January 26, 1903. Mr. Purcell is blessed with a wife, Minnie, and two sons, Howard and James.
